My heart is always full this time of year. Christmas celebrations seem to bring families together and new beginnings are always good as resolutions are made and goals are set. I have been personally challenged to make 2009 a great year. Although we don't know what the year holds, I am thankful we can trust in the One who does. The scripture has challenged me to the core - throughout Jesus' ministry, He continued to reach people at their point of need - He went to where they were! Thom Rainer, author of Essential Church, reminds us "when churches begin to focus on how to reach the community instead of spending all their time on existing programs and people, the current people of the church grow stronger. An essential church is a changing church (not the message) because different types of people are always entering the community. An essential church has a different kind of community." Carthage First Nazarene, we have the opportunity to reach our community for Christ! Statistics show that on any given Sunday, only 28% of the US population attends church. Although 52% claim to have a "church home," the real truth is many are not an active part - church is simply not essential for them.

I am not satisfied! Just 28% is simply not sufficient. I want to see more than "28%" make heaven their home. God is calling us to be the "salt and light" of the world. To help us reach our mission: Celebrate, Connect, Contribute - let me share some exciting ministries with you:

1. New Service Schedule:9:00 a.m. Worship Service led by Praise Team & Choir 10:10 a.m. Connecting Point: Sunday School & Bible Study 11:00 a.m. Worship Service led by Live Band 12:15 a.m. Hispanic Worship Service

2. Small Group Ministry: Connecting with one another during the Sunday School hour as well as new groups being formed.

New Ideas:A. New Small Group: during Sunday School hour at 10:10 a.m., I will lead small group discussion at round tables in the gym with discussion / additional Bible Study on the sermon's theme. Table hosts will lead group discussion. B. Table of Eight Ministry: groups of eight formed to meet monthly for dinner. Each one will be responsible for a part of the meal, rotating homes. The purpose of the groups is to build relationships, pray and care for one another, and of course eat! Be sure to sign up in the foyer. C. Community "Home" Groups: Additional groups are forming for the purpose of Bible study and care. David and Pam Shull will host a small group birthed out of the FPU class. If you are interested in leading a group, please call the Church Office.3. New Building Plans and Forward in Faith: Sunday, January 18th, specific plans will be presented to allow for future growth especially in our nursery / preschool areas and foyer space. Presentations will be made in both morning services with a Q&A time during Sunday School in the Children's Chapel.4. Simplify: We must do what we do best-Receive God's love and then share it! We must not get so "busy" that we don't have time to fulfill God's call upon our lives. We are entering an open window of opportunity for the church. God wants to do incredible things. Let's join together to be His instruments!Thank you: Kara and I want to personally thank each one for the special cards and love gifts during Christmas. It truly is a privilege to be your pastor. We love each one of you.

Working Together in Ministry,

Pastor Dustin

Blessed & High Favored - Hispanic Ministries

The angel Gabriel came to Mary with a message: "Greetings, who you are highly favored! The Lord is with you." This is a message of grace which means Mary was accepted by God and His presence was in her life. We can be the object of His grace. We are also accepted by God through Jesus. "To the praise of His glorious grace, which He has freely given us in the One He loves." Ephesians 1:6. Now we too can say, "We are blessed and highly favored."The angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary you have found favor with God. You will be with child and give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus. He will be great and be called the Son of the Most High. "How can this be," Mary asked the angel, "since I am a virgin?" He made possible the impossible! The angel said, "For nothing is impossible with God." We have seen the Lord with Virgil and Cora through this difficult time. There has been miracle after miracle in Virgil's life. Cora's testimony is: "We are blessed and highly favored". We praise God; Virgil is recovering, for nothing is impossible with God!

TestimonyOn Sunday, November 30th, Delsin, Solana and I were sitting in church. During the message, the children go out to play or go to Children's Church. I asked Delsin if he was going to go with them and he shook his head "no". I asked, "Are you sure?" Once again he said he was staying. This was the second Sunday he had chosen to stay in the service. After church, we picked up Solana. She said that she had fun playing basketball. Delsin said, "I love basketball, but I would rather stay in church and learn more about Jesus." Then he looked up at me with the biggest grin and said, "You know what else? I asked Jesus to take away the old heart and give me a new heart to help me with being good forever." What a testimony from Delsin Escobar, only 7 years old. God is good and so faithful. Delsin is a quiet young man, but he doesn't hesitate to share his testimony.

....... we believe that God has an incredible plan for His teens. Just as He used David in a mighty way to take down Goliath, we exist to do BIG Things for God. We are founded on the verse found in 1 Samuel 17:40, "Then he took his staff in his hand, chose five smooth stones from the stream, put them in the pouch of his shepherd's bag and, with his sling in his hand, approached the Philistine."

God chose David while he was just a teen and then used him in mighty ways his entire life. We believe that God is calling today's teens in the same way He called David. They will do great things in His name and leave their mark on this world. Whether it is facing down giants, fighting for the spiritual lives of their friends, leading this generation, or simply worshipping God, we are called because we seek after God's heart.

One of our Nazarene Compassionate Ministries is "The Potter's House" in Springfield, MO supported by our district. "The Potters House" is a homey atmosphere where college students love to come for a specialty coffee or a smoothie. There are numerous weekly Bible studies that students can be a part of. Some of you have asked how you can personally help support this ministry. Steve and Berna Proffitt, directors of "The Potter's House", have prepared an envelope and a note card to explain how you can give. These envelopes will be on the Welcome Center outside the Sanctuary for a few weeks and then placed on the west hall wooden rack near the Sanctuary. "The Potter's House" staff thanks you for your support of prayer and giving. JAIL MINISTRIES We have services held at the County Jail every Tuesday night. These services are with the Hispanics inmates. We have wonderful testimonies of many of them, of how those lives were changed by Jesus Christ. We had almost 120 inmates in the year and 40 of them accept to Jesus.Let me share with you this testimony: Panchita is a member from our Hispanic congregation. She filled a prayer request card for her son Jose on February 18. In this prayer request, she wrote: "Please pray for my son, he is in drugs." Two weeks later, she called me crying and said: "Pastor Moses, the police took my son and he is jail." He was in jail for 66 days and every Tuesday he came to the service that we had with the inmates. In one of this jail services, he accepted Jesus as his savior and this Sunday he will be telling us his testimony in our church; Praise the Lord!

FOOD DISTRIBUTIONEvery two weeks we pick up food from Compassionate Ministries of Carthage and distribute to the Hispanic families.

CLOTHING DISTRIBUTIONMany donated clothing and shoes from the Church Family were distributed among the Hispanic people. Thank you very much to our Church Family.

Family! We seek to fulfill our mission of honoring Christ by helping the family and their needs of today. From the first moment you enter the doors of Carthage First Nazarene a sense of belonging is found.Uplifting worship, singing, practical Biblical teaching and warm acceptance is what makes our church a special place! Our ministries and services reflect our belief and mission that attending church should be enjoyable, uplifting and meaningful in developing a closer relationship with Jesus Christ.

Our BeliefsOur church is a community of believers with Jesus Christ as its head. We seek to love, respect and care for one another as a demonstration of our love for God.

Our outreach is to those who have no church home. Many in our area are disillusioned with religion. They have felt the sting of legalism with its impossible demands. Some have seen hypocrisy. Others have had no religious background and therefore see Christianity as irrelevant. The missing element has been healthy relationships with mature believers in Jesus.

The Vision

Our vision is to reach our community and make a difference in the lives they live through the good news of Jesus Christ. We believe we can accomplish this through helping people discover God's purpose for their life through teamwork, creativity and excellence.
